Matthew Warchus most recently directed Kevin Spacey and Jeff Goldblum in the acclaimed Speed-the-Plow at The Old Vic and directed and co-wrote the theatrical adaptation of Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.  Other theatre credits include: Buried Child (National Theatre); Endgame (Albery, Olivier nomination for Best Revival); Tell Me on a Sunday (Gielgud); Our House (Cambridge) which won the 2003 Olivier award for Best Musical; The Winter’s Tale (Royal Shakespeare Company Stratford and at the Roundhouse); Follies (Broadway, five Tony nominations); Life x 3 (National Theatre, Old Vic, UK tour and Broadway); True West (Donmar Warehouse, Broadway) for which he received a Tony award nomination; The Unexpected Man (Royal Shakespeare Company, West End, Broadway); Art (Broadway, West End, Los Angeles) for which he won an Olivier Award and a Tony Award nomination for Best Director and an Olivier Award and a Tony Award for Best Play; Hamlet (Royal Shakespeare Company and US tour); Peter Pan; Fiddler on the Roof; The Plough and the Stars; Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf; Death of a Salesman; Betrayal; Life Is a Dream; Henry V (Royal Shakespeare Company) and Volpone (National Theatre) for both of which he won Evening Standard Awards for Best Director, and Much Ado About Nothing (West End) for which he won the Globe Theatre Award for Most Promising Newcomer. 

Opera credits include Cosí fan tutte and Falstaff (English National Opera); The Rake’s Progress (Welsh National Opera and the Royal Opera House) and Falstaff and Troilus and Cressida (Opera North). Film credits include Simpatico by Sam Shepard (Atlantis Films) – a feature film starring Jeff Bridges, Nick Nolte, Sharon Stone and Albert Finney for which Matthew was director and co-adaptor.  His next project is the West End production of Yasmina Reza's God of Carnage.
