THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG

Book by Neil Simon
Music by Marvin Hamlisch
Lyrics by Carole Bayer Sager

An enormous hit when it was first presented in Australia in 1980, They’re Playing Our Song, starred Jackie Weaver and John Waters. After playing for over five hundred performances, the production remains one of Australia’s favourite musicals.

Written by Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line) and Carole Bayer Sager (the Academy Award winning “Arthur’s Theme”), this endearingly funny and romantic story of an established composer and a zany, aspiring young female lyricist is based on the real life relationship of these two songwriters. In the story, this crazy couple find they are drawn to each other but the potential conflict between their professional and personal lives leads to one hilarious scene after another. Will their attraction for each other overcome the obstacles created by their wildly different personalities and temperaments? The answer is cleverly revealed through a brilliant and witty script by Neil Simon (Sweet Charity, The Odd Couple) and the music of Hamlisch and the lyrics of Bayer Sager.

Feature the songs “If He Really Knew Me”, “Fallin’”, “When You’re in My Arms”, “Fill In the Words”, and “They Playing My Song”, this production starred Sharon Millerchip (Chicago) and Ian Stenlake (The Pajama Game, Oklahoma!, Chicago).
