This Tony Award winning musical weaves a magnificent tale of faded glory and unfulfilled ambition. Based on Billy Wilder’s classic film, and featuring a glorious score including “With One Look”, “As If We Never Said Goodbye” and “The Perfect Year”, this is Andrew Lloyd Webber at his dramatic, romantic best.
In 2005, The Production Company’s Sunset Boulevard starred Judi Connelli as Norma Desmond, David Campbell as Joe Gillis, Chelsea Plumley as Betty Schaefer and Roger Howell as loyal butler Max Von Mayerling, with Terence Donovan as legendary director Cecil B De Mille, DJ Foster as the hardened Hollywood producer Sheldrake and Derek Taylor as Joe’s best friend Artie Green. The show also featured Peter Lowrey and an ensemble of 20 singers and dancers with Orchestra Victoria.
She was a great star. He is a struggling Hollywood hack. Together they form one of Tinsel Town’s most electric and tragic combinations on the street of love lost and broken dreams. Silent movie star, Norma Desmond longs for a return to the big screen, having been discarded with the advent of ‘talkies’ – her glamour faded in all but her mind. Now, with struggling screenwriter Joe Gillis by her side, Norma is ready to take her place in front of the cameras once more.
