Music and lyrics by Cole Porter
Book by Sam and Bella Spewack
This revised version of the Cole Porter Broadway Classic won five Tony Awards in 2000, including Best Revival of a Musical. Filled with showgirls, gangsters and many lovable backstage charaters, Kiss Me, Kate combines the unparalleled music of Cole Porter with the brilliance of Shakespeare in an hilarious on stage – and back stage – comedy.
The Production Company’s season in 2005 starred Marina Prior (Annie Get Your Gun, Guys & Dolls) as Lilli and Scott Irwin (Annie Get Your Gun, High Society, The Full Monty) as Fred, reuniting the two after their fabulous partnership in Annie Get Your Gun.
Merely hours away from opening night, the cast of a new musical production of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew are receiving final instructions from director Fred Graham. Directing his former wife, Lilli Vanessi, who is a movie star and difficult to deal with, Fred takes on the role of male lead in a company that includes his current love interest, nightclub singer Lois Lane.
Featuring hit songs and memorable melodies, Cole Porter’s classic score includes “Another Op’nin’, Another Show”, “Wunderbar”, “So In Love”, “Too Darn Hot”, “Always True to You in My Fashion” and “Brush Up Your Shakespeare”.
