Hairspray The Musical Australia has garnered seven nominations in the 2011 Helpmann Awards, Australia's annual performing art awards. The nominations were for: Best Direction of a Musical (David Atkins OAM), Best Choreography of a Musical (Jason Coleman), Best Costume Design (Janet Hine), Best Female Actor in a Musical (Jaz Flowers), Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical (Scott Irwin), Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical (Esther Hannaford), and of course Best Musical (Hairspray)!
SYDNEY OPENING NIGHT

Last night Hairspray opened in Sydney with a gala pink-carpet arrival and glamorous Opening Night After Party hosted by Daltone House, Darling Island Wharf. 60's classic tunes and motown moves were provided by leading DJ Matt Geronimi who showed guests a few dance moves of his own later in the evening. Guests dressed in their best 60's inspired cocktail attire with plenty of 60's beehives, up-do's, gel and hairspray of course keeping it all big thanks to the Schwarzkopt Taft touch up service!
