Since being awarded a MO Award for Best New Talent in 1997, David Harris has become one of Australia's leading men in musical theatre.
David is best known to Australian audiences for his portrayal of Chris in Cameron Mackintosh's production of Miss Saigon. His performance received critical acclaim and he was nominated for both Helpmann and Sydney Theatre Awards in the category of Best Actor in a Musical.
He commenced his professional career as an original cast member of The Boy from Oz, followed by a national tour with the original Australian cast of Mamma Mia! Other notable performances include Joe Hardy in Damn Yankees, John Brookes in Little Women, Prez in Pajama Game, Perchik in Fiddler on the Roof alongside Topol, Malcolm in The Full Monty, John in Andrew Lippa's John & Jen and Jimmy Smith in the Australian premiere of Thoroughly Modern Millie. David also appeared in the role of Greg in a new version of The Boy from Oz for The Production Company's 2010 season.
David originated the role of Bud in the Australian premiere production of the two-man comedy, Gutenberg! -The Musical; created all male roles in the Australian premiere of Breast Wishes; and received a GLUG Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance in LOVEBiTES.
For the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, David was privileged to work directly with Andrew Lippa on The Wild Party playing Oscar and with Richard Maltby Jnr and David Shire on their new musical Take Flight, playing Orville Wright. In 2010 he premiered his solo show to sell-out audiences and was invited to perform with Wicked composer Stephen Schwartz in Stephen Schwartz and Friends.
In concert, David toured with UK musical theatre star Michael Ball and has performed with Australian leading lady Marina Prior, as well as with international star Lea Salonga at a special performance in Vietnam. He has also performed at the opening celebration of Hong Kong Disneyland and as a special guest with the Perth Army Band. David's television and film credits include Rescue Special Ops, Blue Heelers, Neighbours and Disney's South Pacific starring Glenn Close and Harry Connick Jnr.
David most recently played the role of Fiyero in the Australian and Asian tour of Wicked for which he received a Helpmann Award nomination.
David has released two solo CDs - 'Til The Night Is Gone and At This Stage. He is also featured on the cast recordings of Breast Wishes, LOVEBiTES and The Boy from Oz (Original Australian production).
